Use this info to avoid getting ripped of by rouge traders.
If I were a customer and needed new fencing in my garden I would do this
(1) Pop down to look at some fencing at your local builders merchant or large garden centre, Take a note of how long the run of fencing is required i.e. 50 feet in length, Take that info with you and get an approximate cost of materials.
(2) Take your time there is no rush, ask lots of questions like what is the best quality fencing here and what is your budget range fencing, Look at the panels and different types of wood, Keep in mind - the best types of panel are treated ( TANALISED ) Get a real feel of what's available on the market.
(3) Any good garden centre or builders merchant will be happy to show you their products
(4) Once you are happy with your choice why not call a fencing contractor and tell them the type of material you would like to use and where it is available.
(5) You are now armed with knowing the cost of the material but take into account a fencing contractor has to account for waste, if removing old fencing and he has to consider the cost of cement and ballast and the cost of labour.
(6) You know the cost of the wood fencing so ask him how much this is, there should be no reason why he cant give you this price.
(7) Ask the fencing contractor, would he be prepared to do the job if you purchase the materials yourself, any trustworthy fencing contractor will answer yes to this question
(8) As a general rule the cost of the fencing materials including the concrete and all the fencing posts and panels you should expect to pay approximately the same costs in labour fees, so if all the materials come to £800.00 then you should expect to pay approximately £1600.00 for the job.
(9) But also note if the job is particularly difficult i.e. installing the fencing on a concrete sloping driveway the costs may rise slightly.
(10) This information is just a general guideline for you to follow and make your own decisions.
Over the years I've been in business I have noticed more and more companies looking to make a fast buck and not providing quality fencing and workmanship you deserve.
My advice to you. Take your time, ask lots of questions, ask the garden centres and builders merchants lots of questions, be sure you're not employing a rogue traders.
