Firstly you should consider the contractors in your local area, and take into account how long they have been established.
It is better to use a local company as they will want to uphold their reputation for their own local area thus supplying you with a good service.
Why not give them a call, you could simply tell them you are looking to have some fencing installed but are contacting local contractors to find out their work load etc.
Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions, satisfy yourself by speaking about your garden fencing project and what type of materials are available, what styles are available, is the fencing pre-treated etc.
Arm yourself with some information how many panels are required or the length of fencing required.
This gives you information so you are able to talk to the contractor and get a general feel about the company.
Why not ask if you can view one or two recent jobs he has completed in your local area for you to view the type of material used and workmanship.
Any reputable company would be happy to show you some of his recent works.
Ask if they have a website so you are able to view various details about the company and see some of their works and different types of fencing.
Take your time, once you're happy with the company if you decide to go ahead make sure you get a written quotation before work commences.
That way there can be no discrepancy as he should give detailed information of the materials that are to be supplied etc.
Key points: call and ask lots of questions, ask to view their website, ask to view their local works, but most important if you agree to go ahead get a written quote.
